Spain today, The USA tomorrow? A country in depression.

Eurozone-Youth-Unemployment-May-2013-cc-565x538

We often write about the economic tide rolling out. This is what it looks like in Europe.

Spain is the country of Picasso, Miro, Gaudi, Salvador Dali,  Don Quixote, and a former superpower (centuries ago.) Now it is a shadow of even what it was a decade ago. This report comes to us from a friend of ACC.

“…The grandparents are the safety net for the extended family.  They provide lodging for the children and grandchildren.  The grandparents have avoided debt and own more than one home mortgage free.  They pay for groceries, school, and clothing for the children and grandchildren.

There is no hiring beyond what is absolutely necessary. The same people stock shelves, make deliveries and act as cashiers in grocery stores.  Self checkout kiosks are ubiquitous.

Small business staff with family and friends who are paid under the table.  Businesses open sporadically and share what business there is by deciding among themselves which days they will be open.

People who are working full time are almost all older than you would expect.  They are tenured employees who do not quit until they qualify for a pension.

The wonderful network of toll roads is deserted. One can drive 50 kilometers and encounter maybe 10 speeding Mercedes and BMWs and no trucks.

The new high speed rail (AVE) is little used because it is so expensive.  Intercity and long haul bus routes thrive.

NOBODY drinks wine – only beer….wine is too expensive.  Café owners complain that young people don’t go out but instead buy their booze at supermarkets and drink in the parks.

There are many street side vendors who are in the country illegally.

It is considered bad form not to give to beggars (as long as they are not gypsies.)

Tax avoidance is common.  You know when you get no receipt that the sale is not reported.

Abandoned cars are common (too expensive to put on the road.)

The 1% goes on – No one knows where all their money comes from.”

Report: How GOP lost young voters

20130604-113448.jpg

There can be no doubt that the GOP is shocked over it’s election loses and the fact that it’s lost the youth vote. However, the reasons it offers for its ballot box failures completely miss and/or ignore any reference whatsoever to issues that are important to the young, like civil liberties, foreign policy, drug laws and the contentious social issues.

Politico reports:
A new postmortem on the November elections from the nation’s leading voice for college Republicans offers a searing indictment of the GOP “brand” and the major challenges the party faces in wooing young voters, according to a copy given exclusively to POLITICO on Sunday.

The College Republican National Committee on Monday made public a detailed report — the result of extensive polling and focus groups — dissecting what went wrong for Republicans with young voters in the 2012 elections and how the party can improve its showing with that key demographic in the future.

It’s not a pretty picture. In fact, it’s a “dismal present situation,” the report says.

The 95-page study, which looked at the party’s views on social and economic issues, as well as its messaging and outreach, echoes a March report on the election debacle issued by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, which presented a devastating assessment of the party’s current state of affairs.

But in some ways the new report from inside the GOP tent is even more scathing and ominous — since it comes from the party’s next generation.
Titled the “Grand Old Party for a Brand New Generation,” the report is sharply critical of the GOP on several fronts.

2,000-plus in venue, 100-plus in entryways attend to hear, engage ‘Champion of the Constitution’

LENEXA, Kansas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul drew a remarkable more than 2,100 voters to his University of Kansas Town Hall Meeting held tonight.  Over 2,000 voters filled the KU Lied Center to see the 12-term Congressman from Texas speak and answer questions, with an additional more than 100 others filling public entryways.

Dr. Paul’s KU Town Hall Meeting, co-sponsored by ‘Youth for Ron Paul,’ took place at 7:30 p.m. CST at the University of Kansas – Lied Center, located at 1600 Stewart Drive, Lawrence, KS 66045.  Congressman Paul discussed shrinking the scale and scope of the federal government to bring it more in line with its constitutional limits, and outlined his path-breaking ‘Plan to Restore America,’ an oft-praised fiscal blueprint designed to put the nation’s economy on track to rapid but sustainable growth.

A picture of Ron Paul’s large town hall meeting follows.

Ron Paul Has Won: Young People Engage With Liberty, Limited Government, Sound Money, Anti-War Principles

The next generation of leaders in America are Ron Paul fans

When Congressman Ron Paul embarked on a third Presidential campaign he did so with one over riding aim – to engage the next generation of Americans and provide them with the platform to restore the principles of the Constitution. The facts show that he has overwhelmingly succeeded.

Tuesday’s primary in New Hampshire saw the Congressman net almost half of all votes from people aged between 18 and 29 years old. Paul received 47 percent of young voter support, data collated by the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement shows.

“Dr. Paul’s 47 percent support from 18- to 29-year-olds was the strongest level of support for any candidate by any age group.” said CIRCLE Director Peter Levine in a press release.

Ron Paul stormed the primary among young voters by a margin of 22 percentage points, more than doubling his youth votes since the 2008 New Hampshire primary. In comparison, Mitt Romney drew around the same number of young voters as he did four years ago, roughly 25 percent. This highlights how Ron Paul’s policies and principles have resonated with the future of the nation.

The number of young voters who turned out for Paul in New Hampshire was close to 14,000. By comparison, the number of young voters who voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 primary was around 26,000. Even the most hardened critics were forced to admit that those figures alone are impressive. Data on young voter participation among Democrats in Tuesday’s primary wasn’t available, but Paul’s numbers will surely be even closer to Obama’s when disillusioned Democrats are factored in.

The results in New Hampshire dovetail with those out of Iowa, where Paul earned the support of 48 percent of the 18,000 Iowans under the age of 30 who participated in the GOP Caucuses. Rick Santorum came in second with 23 percent, while Romney gathered just 13 percent support.

The statistics show that a very substantial 8,800 young people caucused for Ron Paul in Iowa. That means that young voters supported Ron Paul in a far greater percentage than any other age group supported any candidate in the State. Indeed, people under 30 provided Ron Paul with one third of his total votes.

The Congressman constantly praises his young supporters and points out that they are so enamored with his campaign because “freedom is popular” and “That’s where the enthusiasm is”.

Even more statistics released this week highlight the fact that Paul’s ideas have set alight the youth of the nation.

A detailed survey of all U.S. Facebook users provided to POLITICO by Facebook, shows that Paul absolutely dominates the volume of posts, status updates, links shared to friends’ walls and user comments on the world’s most popular social network site.

In the run up to the Iowa caucuses, Paul reached around one quarter MILLION mentions on Facebook, according to the data. The Congressman is routinely by far the most discussed candidate, making him the outright winner of the so called “Facebook primary”.

In addition, an analysis of Twitter traffic by number crunchers Crimson Hexagon shows that Paul dominated the discussion on twitter in the week of the New Hampshire vote.

Paul was mentioned by 26 percent of tweets from Jan. 6-11, while Romney was mentioned 22 percent of the time. Paul also was mentioned more often on Twitter on the day after the primary, with 27 percent to 26 percent for Romney, while Gingrich and Santorum were each mentioned 15 percent of the time.

Earlier this month, three other separate studies also revealed that Ron Paul’s presidential campaign is surging across the social networks and the internet.

Not only is Paul by far the most viral GOP candidate on Facebook and  Twitter, he has the largest network reach of all the candidates, and is the most interacted with and trusted by users of all the other major social networks online.

In comments to TIME for a piece on Paul’s youth appeal, Paul’s campaign manager, Jesse Benton, recently noted that young people have an “amazing BS meter,” and they often say they see Paul as more sincere, more reliable than the other candidates. “They haven’t had time to become cynical yet,” Benton added.

Ideas are bullet proof and the Ron Paul Revolution is growing exponentially. In this very real sense, Paul has already won the decisive victory he recognizes is infinitely more meaningful than the office of the presidency.

GOP Republicans – playing with Ron Paul’s loaded gun.

With the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary right around the corner, I thought I would look at the candidates from a campaign perspective (sans Media Spin).

As any campaign expert will tell you, short of the economy tanking, carving off chunks of Obama’s support is the best way to guarantee Republicans beat Obama. Ron Paul is the only candidate positioned to do this.

THE YOUTH VOTE
The youth vote which Obama won by 34% in 2008 is abandoning him. Ron Paul has proven strong appeal with the young voters. He is by far the best candidate capable of not only appealing to this demographic but energizing it towards defeating Obama. Anyone who thinks the youth vote will abandon Obama for one of the other candidates is kidding themselves. This is one of Obama’s Achilles heals and ONLY Ron Paul can not only exploit it – but use it against Obama.

MILITARY
Most Americans think that with Bin Laden dead, our job is done and we should bring the troops home. Obama is vulnerable on this issue against Ron Paul. Any other GOP candidate will galvanize these supporters to Obama. Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate who appeals to these voters disenchanted with Obama – carving away votes.

DRUG WAR
76% of Americans agree with RP that the federal war on drugs is a failure, in fact, only 8% think it has been a success. 89% of the people who voted for Obama 4 years ago believe the war on drugs is a failure. Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate who is positioned to cleave off  a chunk of these Obama  supporters. Any other GOP candidate will galvanize these supporters to Obama.

POLITICIANS
A record number of Americans do not trust politicians. Obama is a status qua politician, Romney is the poster child of insider politician. Ron Paul is the anti-politician and a doctor – and Americans have a high level of trust in doctors. The media and elites hate him. Ron Paul is the candidate who can appeal to these voters.

ENERGIZED ARMY OF SUPPORTERS
Obama is not going to be defeated by a slick DC Beltway campaign alone. It is going to take a nationwide passionate, energized army of supporters. Ron Paul has clearly demonstrated that he can energize his base of supporters like no other candidate can. We all know that if Ron Paul isn’t the nominee, this army of energy disappears. But with Paul as the nominee, this army will mushroom.

Ron Paul’s message isn’t engineered to win a GOP beauty contest – it’s engineered to beat Obama.

THE “PAUL or NOBODY” Problem
If Paul is not the nominee and just stays home, the Republicans lose a significant part of his supporters. He has a large “Paul or Nobody” base. If Paul grows weary of the Republican assaults and runs 3rd party, it is game over for them.

My advice to the Republicans – just do it.
Some of you may need to get more liquored up than others.
