ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity is a project of Dr. Paul’s Foundation for Rational Economics and Education (F.R.E.E.), founded in the 1970s as an educational organization. The Institute continues and expands Dr. Paul’s lifetime of public advocacy for a peaceful foreign policy and the protection of civil liberties at home.
The Institute mobilizes colleagues and collaborators of Dr. Paul’s to participate in a broad coalition to educate and advocate for fundamental changes in our foreign and domestic policy.
A prosperous America is profoundly linked to a foreign policy rooted in peaceful relations and trade with all. With peace, comes real prosperity.
Ron Paul’s real legacy in his writing, teaching, and in politics is his success bringing people of very different backgrounds and perspectives together under the common cause of peace, individual liberties, and prosperity. His institute energetically continues this kind of “coalition-building” in all aspects of its work. The Institute board is itself one of the best examples of how broad a coalition can come together and work for the same shared goals and values.
New Year’s Resolutions for Congress
0Source: http://www.campaignforliberty.org
Our Honorary Chairman, Congressman Ron Paul, has list of resolutions for the upcoming Congress in his latest Texas Straight Talk:
As I prepare to retire from Congress, I’d like to suggest a few New Year’s resolutions for my colleagues to consider. For the sake of liberty, peace, and prosperity I certainly hope more members of Congress consider the strict libertarian constitutional approach to government in 2013.
In just a few days, Congress will solemnly swear to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. They should reread Article 1 Section 8 and the Bill of Rights before taking such a serious oath. Most legislation violates key provisions of the Constitution in very basic ways, and if members can’t bring themselves to say no in the face of pressure from special interests, they have broken trust with their constituents and violated their oaths. Congress does not exist to serve special interests, it exists to protect the rule of law.
I also urge my colleagues to end unconstitutional wars overseas. Stop the drone strikes; stop the covert activities and meddling in the internal affairs of other nations. Strive to observe “good faith and justice towards all Nations” as George Washington admonished. We are only making more enemies, wasting lives, and bankrupting ourselves with the neoconservative, interventionist mindset that endorses pre-emptive war that now dominates both parties.
All foreign aid should end because it is blatantly unconstitutional. While it may be a relatively small part of our federal budget, for many countries it is a large part of theirs–and it creates perverse incentives for both our friends and enemies. There is no way members of Congress can know or understand the political, economic, legal, and social realities in the many nations to which they send taxpayer dollars.
Congress needs to stop accumulating more debt. US debt, monetized by the Federal Reserve, is the true threat to our national security. Revisiting the parameters of Article 1 Section 8 would be a good start.
Congress should resolve to respect personal liberty and free markets. Learn more about the free market and how it regulates commerce and produces greater prosperity better than any legislation or regulation. Understand that economic freedom IS freedom. Resolve not to get in the way of voluntary contracts between consenting adults. Stop bailing out failed yet politically connected companies and industries. Stop forcing people to engage in commerce when they don’t want to, and stop prohibiting them from buying and selling when they do want to. Stop trying to legislate your ideas of fairness. Protect property rights. Protect the individual. That is enough.
There are many more resolutions I would like to see my colleagues in Congress adopt, but respect for the Constitution and the oath of office should be at the core of everything members of Congress do in 2013.

Congressman Ron Paul’s Farewell Speech to Congress (Video & Transcript)
0A true statesman and humanitarian, Dr. Ron Paul, simply states the road we are on verses the road we should be on, explaining both consequences and rewards. I feel no individual in office can fill his mighty shoes, but that is not necessary, as the time is now to advance the cause of Freedom and Personal Liberty and the person to carry that cause is you and I, as individuals uniting to create a critical mass, so often mentioned by Bob Schultz and others. The revolution is now in our hands and we each will decide how best to promote the battle for Liberty!

Congressman Paul’s final speech on the House floor before leaving Congress
Below is the transcript of Ron Paul’s farewell address to Congress:
Farewell to Congress
This may well be the last time I speak on the House Floor. At the end of the year I’ll leave Congress after 23 years in office over a 36 year period. My goals in 1976 were the same as they are today: promote peace and prosperity by a strict adherence to the principles of individual liberty.
It was my opinion, that the course the U.S. embarked on in the latter part of the 20th Century would bring us a major financial crisis and engulf us in a foreign policy that would overextend us and undermine our national security.
To achieve the goals I sought, government would have had to shrink in size and scope, reduce spending, change the monetary system, and reject the unsustainable costs of policing the world and expanding the American Empire.
The problems seemed to be overwhelming and impossible to solve, yet from my view point, just following the constraints placed on the federal government by the Constitution would have been a good place to start.
How Much Did I Accomplish?
In many ways, according to conventional wisdom, my off-and-on career in Congress, from 1976 to 2012, accomplished very little. No named legislation, no named federal buildings or highways—thank goodness. In spite of my efforts, the government has grown exponentially, taxes remain excessive, and the prolific increase of incomprehensible regulations continues. Wars are constant and pursued without Congressional declaration, deficits rise to the sky, poverty is rampant and dependency on the federal government is now worse than any time in our history.
All this with minimal concerns for the deficits and unfunded liabilities that common sense tells us cannot go on much longer. A grand, but never mentioned, bipartisan agreement allows for the well-kept secret that keeps the spending going. One side doesn’t give up one penny on military spending, the other side doesn’t give up one penny on welfare spending, while both sides support the bailouts and subsidies for the banking and corporate elite. And the spending continues as the economy weakens and the downward spiral continues. As the government continues fiddling around, our liberties and our wealth burn in the flames of a foreign policy that makes us less safe.
The major stumbling block to real change in Washington is the total resistance to admitting that the country is broke. This has made compromising, just to agree to increase spending, inevitable since neither side has any intention of cutting spending.
The country and the Congress will remain divisive since there’s no “loot left to divvy up.”
Without this recognition the spenders in Washington will continue the march toward a fiscal cliff much bigger than the one anticipated this coming January.
I have thought a lot about why those of us who believe in liberty, as a solution, have done so poorly in convincing others of its benefits. If liberty is what we claim it is- the principle that protects all personal, social and economic decisions necessary for maximum prosperity and the best chance for peace- it should be an easy sell. Yet, history has shown that the masses have been quite receptive to the promises of authoritarians which are rarely if ever fulfilled.

On May 3rd, 2012 at the University of California at Davis Ron Paul spoke to thousands of cheering, sign waving supporters. Wherever he goes Ron Paul is supported by The Many.
A range of topics were covered included tolerance in society, non-violence, compassion towards others, the free speech issues of today, and a peace through trade foreign policy citing historic and present day examples.
Touching on the cornerstone of his monetary policy, Dr. Paul explained how current economic policies hurt the purchasing power of the middle class, how to solve the inflation issues of today, and how freedom can bring people together to create prosperity.
The Tax Man Cometh — and Taketh
0Source: http://www.openmarket.org
If you’re like most Americans, you woke up on April 18 dazed and sore, a victim of the not-so-gentle attentions of the U.S. Tax Man.
But now that he’s left with your wallet and your dignity, what is he going to spend your hard-earned but easily surrendered money on? What exactly is Uncle Sam going to do with all the cash he collected in his annual, anti-Santa- like dash across the country?
Thanks to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, we have a handy breakdown of federal tax revenues and expenditures, including USA Today-esque pie charts (mmmm….pie), which shows a couple of surprising and depressing things.
For one, those who think that all those foreign wars being fought by our large and professional warrior class are bankrupting the country are dead wrong. “Defense and International Security Assistance” accounts for only 20 percent of the federal budget (all numbers are for 2011) totaling $718 billion, of which only $159 billion was allocated for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now, whether you think that number could be higher or lower, few would argue that national defense is not the fundamental province of the national government, and therefore undeserving of a significant share of national expenditures.
Something else a lot of conservatives and liberals can agree deserves a share of federal spending is national transportation infrastructure (this is debatable), which indeed accounts for 3 percent of the federal budget. That takes care of guns and roads, which every nation needs. Unfortunately, any further forays into Budget Land gets us into more and more controversial territory. Conservatives think we spend too much on education, and they’re right, but that still only takes 2 percent of federal spending. Liberals think we should spend more on scientific research, and they’re right, but we still spend a robust 2 percent on such sundries.
Now we get to the big boys, the Entitlement programs which by far consume the vast majority of federal dollars. In fact, entitlements combine to devour a whopping 54 percent of the entire budget. Social Security alone takes 20 percent, or $731 billion. The insurance programs Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) together total another 21 percent, or $769 billion. Other safety net programs, food stamps, housing assistance, school meals, etc. combine to take another 13 percent, or $466 billion.
It would be nice if we had the money for all of these programs, of course, but we don’t. Which brings us to the last major slice of the federal budget pie — interest payments. You see, last year the government only raised $2.3 trillion in tax revenue, but spent $3.6 trillion. The balance, of course, was borrowed, which behavior explains why 6 percent of our budget, $230 billion, went to paying interest on our shameful national debt.
We are literally borrowing money to make interest payments on borrowed money. And yet still we throw more than half our federal dollars at an Entitlement State that has produced neither prosperity nor security, but has instead turned millions of Americans into serfs to the national bureaucracy.
Ron Paul Moneybomb: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

By Jack Hunter
If there’s one thing I’ve been ticked off about in the last few weeks it’s the the lack of media coverage of the massive crowds Ron Paul continues to draw each stop he makes. I’m sorry, but even for reporters who’ve written Paul off–this is a story. Why does Ron Paul continue to attract such a vast audience? Why are his audiences so enthusiastic? What’s his secret? A few local news affiliates have asked these questions. The national media has ignored the entire phenomenon.
And make no mistake, it is phenomenal. What we’re witnessing with Ron Paul and his movement is an ideological and generational shift from the politics of old to a true message of liberty, prosperity and the promise of a better future. The other candidates in this race represent a broken status quo that many are still willing to endure, while Paul represents a new electorate that rejects that system wholesale. What Ron Paul is doing right now will continue to bear fruit for years to come, gauged not only by the various Ron Paul Republicans running for House and Senate seats (this year’s crop alone is shaping up nicely) but in Americans’ attitudes about government in general. Paul’s ideas have already shaped this race, something even his critics will admit.
The GOP establishment represents the past. We represent the future. Mitt Romney is running a campaign. Ron Paul is spearheading a revolution.
Coming off of victories yesterday in Colorado and Minnesota, the April 15th money bomb will give us the resources to take the revolution all the way to Tampa where our voices will not be ignored. The following grassroots video expresses well much of what I’ve said here. Dr. Paul really does have the best supporters in the world:
This is only the beginning.

Minerals in Afghanistan worth $1 trillion
0Minerals in Afghanistan worth $1 trillion, U.S. says – CNN.com
(CNN) — U.S. military officials and geologists have determined that the mineral deposits in Afghanistan are worth nearly $1 trillion, the Pentagon said Monday.
Vast supplies of minerals such as iron, copper and gold, all with worldwide technological applications, are scattered over the country, according to the Defense Department.
But officials caution that they won’t be easy to extricate and that it will take years to turn this newfound mineral wealth into actual revenue.
“It’s not a quick win,” the U.S. Geological Survey’s Jack Medlin said at a Pentagon briefing Monday.
Pentagon and State Department officials acknowledged that extraction efforts are challenged by remote locations, a weak infrastructure, a dearth of heavy vehicles and equipment, and a strong insurgent presence.
“Turning the potential of Afghanistan’s mineral wealth into actual revenue will take years,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said Monday. “Mineral extraction, you know, faces numerous but not insurmountable challenges.”
Geologists from the Geological Survey started studying the potential of Afghan mineral resources in 2004, after being presented with maps generated by the Soviet Union in the 1980s and earlier data that showed hundreds of mineral sites, according to Medlin.
Crowley downplayed questions about the potential for other countries to try to exploit Afghanistan’s possible wealth and acknowledged that internal corruption could pose a problem.
“We’re very mindful of the fact that around the world, you have a number of countries that are blessed with natural resources that may become a source of conflict and corruption,” Crowley said.
“We want to be sure that we have helped Afghanistan develop effective institutions of government so that it’s able to develop its mining sector, that it’s generating revenue that can be turned into greater prosperity and shared opportunity for the Afghan people,” he said.
The financial implications of this announcement are enormous, according to economic experts. Once the minerals are mined and processed, Afghanistan could well be on its way to economic prosperity, becoming a modern economy rather than one that is narcotics-based. It would then be better capable of paying for its own defense, among other things.
“It could very well be that this country is not going to be dependent on the United States and the United States aid or foreign aid forever,” said Mohsin Khan, senior fellow with the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
“It’s got resources, and eventually, when it starts to exploit them, it will do fine,” Khan said.
On Monday, the New York Times quoted an internal Pentagon memo that said Afghanistan has become the “Saudi Arabia of lithium,” used in batteries for laptop computers. The exact amount of lithium in Afghan soil is still being determined.
Medlin said the U.S. is making every effort to quickly help the Afghans with the necessary tools they need to facilitate commercial development of the mines.
“This wealth has the potential to enable them to have a future they were not aware of,” Medlin said.

[CIM Comment]
Of course, remember, stripping a country of it’s natural resources is one of the main motivating factors of US foreign policy, whether it betrayed as good or bad. The value of lithium and other minerals was determined years ago and made public. We are there for the quick cash crop, opium, and there for the long haul for corporate profits, through contractors, for the minerals. Same as our noble relief efforts in Haiti and elsewhere.
Regarding the American citizen, we will see no benefit as we did not see the oil pay for the war in Iraq, just more smoke and mirrors. This is a two way street. We send our sons and daughters to fight and die and traveling down the oncoming lane is billions in profits for the corporate entities, the same entities that control our foreign policy. Not a fan of smoke and mirrors, let alone where they blow the smoke, figuratively speaking.
Corporate America has spoken, and reaping their war rewards. When will citizen America speak up? I can think of only one solution and that is to change course and go back to a proven path of prosperity. Thanks to current and past administrations our ship of state has been ran ashore and we are being robbed and looted by pirates commonly called corporations and the Federal Reserve.

Ron Paul Raises $1.2mil On Valentine’s Day

Ron Paul pulled in $1.2mil on Valentine's Day
Texas Congressman and presidential hopeful Ron Paul raised more than US$1.2 million in a special “money bomb” effort on Valentine’s Day, showing the candidate is as viable as his competitors.
The congressman hit the amount at the end of Valentine’s Day, but more donations for the moneybomb are continuing to pour in. As of this writing, the campaign has taken in US1.213,500 through his fundraising effort. The official Paul campaign website has a running tally of donations going on its front page.
The money raised equals that brought in to the Rick Santorum campaign after his upset wins in Missouri, Minnesota, and Colorado last week, notes The Hill. Congressman Paul has yet to win a primary or caucus.
In an e-mail to supporters, Congressman Paul wrote, “Every day, more and more Americans are realizing how deeply our out-of-control government has devastated our nation, and they’re angry. They’re looking for answers, and my staff is ready to ramp up our efforts even more to reach them with our solutions – through more hard-hitting ads, direct mail and email, more boots on the ground, and more personal phone calls.”

This is a work in progess, a self learning tool and fun little project. Please excuse the slow development as it seems the needed proper time is always lacking. It is my hope that the combination of content and links to other sources of information in this simple blog may help awaken a few of the sleeping masses and encourage and inspire others to initiate their own research, ultimately for each person to be a light to help awaken others.
