And the Most Popular Political Party in America is…

The following poll results from Gallup represent the most significant domestic news story I have come across in 2014 to-date. Gallup polling in 2013 showed that the highest number of Americans now identify as Independents since it started asking the question 25 years ago. Specifically, 42% identify as Independents, versus 31% as Democrats and 25% as Republicans. Even more interesting, the trend accelerated as the year progressed. If we look at quarterly results, in 4Q13 46% identified as Independents, versus 29% Democrat and 22% Republican.

This is huge, huge news and it seems that my long held belief that both the Democrat and Republican parties are set to completely disintegrate during this current 4th Turning. Earlier in 2012, wrote a piece titled, The Seventy Percent, in which I predicted that no matter who would go on to win the Presidential election, 70% of the public would be disappointed.

This sets up huge opportunities for non-conventional candidates to gain control of local and national office in 2014 and beyond. While I hold out limited hope for traditional politics, we must fight on all fronts for secular reform and the window right now is wide open.

From Gallup.

Forty-two percent of Americans, on average, identified as political independents in 2013, the highest Gallup has measured since it began conducting interviews by telephone 25 years ago. Meanwhile, Republican identification fell to 25%, the lowest over that time span. At 31%, Democratic identification is unchanged from the last four years but down from 36% in 2008.

The results are based on more than 18,000 interviews with Americans from 13 separate Gallup multiple-day polls conducted in 2013.

In each of the last three years, at least 40% of Americans have identified as independents. These are also the only years in Gallup’s records that the percentage of independents has reached that level.

Democratic identification has also declined in recent years, falling five points from its recent high of 36% in 2008, the year President Barack Obama was elected. The current 31% of Americans identifying as Democrats matches the lowest annual average in the last 25 years.

The percentage of Americans identifying as independents grew over the course of 2013, surging to 46% in the fourth quarter. That coincided with the partial government shutdown in October and the problematic rollout of major provisions of the healthcare law, commonly known as “Obamacare.”

Americans are increasingly declaring independence from the political parties. It is not uncommon for the percentage of independents to rise in a non-election year, as 2013 was. Still, the general trend in recent years, including the 2012 election year, has been toward greater percentages of Americans identifying with neither the Republican Party nor the Democratic Party, although most still admit to leaning toward one of the parties.

The increased independence adds a greater level of unpredictability to this year’s congressional midterm elections. Because U.S. voters are less anchored to the parties than ever before, it’s not clear what kind of appeals may be most effective to winning votes. But with Americans increasingly eschewing party labels for themselves, candidates who are less closely aligned to their party or its prevailing doctrine may benefit.

Wow!, Poll: 72% of Americans identify big government as the greatest threat to the country’s future

Capitol-shutdown-cc

Boy, many thought Obamacare was going to herald some new era of big government.

Guess what? It ain’t.

Back in November we asked if Obama had just ushered in the first real move toward smaller government in decades. And no kidding,  It looks like he just might have.

In the history of this poll (and it goes back to the Johnson administration) never have the American people even approached this level of disaffection with government. Never. Not even close.

An amazing poll, which may reflect a massive shift in the body politic. Too soon to be sure, but it is certainly worthy of a “wow.”

The GOP establishment had better get hip to this trend. McCain and the other big government Republicans should consider whether now is the time to retire. Seriously.

And you know who’s most worried about this poll? It’s not Obama. It’s Karl Rove.

(From Politico.com)

The 72 percent that named big government over big business and big labor in the survey released Wednesday by Gallup is a record high in Gallup’s polling. The previous high was 65 percent in 1999 and 2000.

New Poll: Young and Hispanics abandon the President over Obamacare

obama-exhausted-cc1

To the president’s credit he has been able to effectively reach out to these 2 vital demographic groups. They probably made the difference for him in the 2012 election. But it looks like the love affair is over, or at the very least has hit a very rocky patch.

(From Real Clear Politics)

Obamacare, popular among both groups in 2012, is now an Obama albatross.

Young voters oppose it 51 percent to 42 percent and Hispanics 50 percent to 44 percent. Majorities of both groups give Obama negative ratings on health care.

One must note that this is just one poll and that opinions may change as events unfold. But it looks very much like the astonishingly disastrous Obamacare rollout has moved opinion decisively against the president and his trademark policy.

Military Times Survey: 75% of Troops Oppose Strikes on Syria

Military Times Survey: 75% of Troops Oppose Strikes on Syria

It’s always a good sign for an empire’s fortunes when the commander in chief of the armed forces completely loses the confidence and trust of the troops. While we have all seen various polls demonstrating the general public’s complete opposition to unprovoked military aggression against Syria, I hadn’t seen a survey focused on military members until now. The results are not good for the establishment. From the Military Times:

To the list of skeptics who question the need for air strikes against Syria, add an another unlikely group — many U.S. troops.

“I haven’t heard one single person be supportive of it,” said an Army staff sergeant at Fort Hood who asked not to be identified by name.

A Military Times survey of more than 750 active-duty troops this week found service members oppose military action in Syria by a margin of about three to one.

The survey conducted online Monday and Tuesday found that about 75 percent of troops are not in favor of air strikes in response to reports that the Syrian government used chemical weapons to kill civilians in that country.

A higher percentage of troops, about 80 percent, say they do not believe getting involved in the two-year-old civil war is in the U.S. national interest.

The results suggest that opposition inside the military may be more intense than among the U.S. population at large. About 64 percent of Americans oppose air strikes, according to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll published Monday.

Will South Dakota voters rock the nation?

Will South Dakota voters rock the nation and send message to the establishment?

With the mainstream’s agenda of pushing Mitt Romney down Republican voters’ throats even though no one has clinched the nomination yet, will South Dakota provide some much needed push-back by coming out in droves in favor of the other candidate still in the race, Ron Paul?

Although it barely made a whisper in the national news, the fact is that the very first state that had polled Ron Paul in first place was actually South Dakota.  This was way back in December when there was still a crowded field of challengers in the race.  While a poll that old cannot be relied upon today, it is certainly an indicator of support that could be seized upon if there is a significant effort put forth by grassroots activists reminding voters that there are still 2 candidates left in this race.

The truth is that the Paul campaign has been racking up endorsements throughout South Dakota over the past week.  Although the most recent comments made by Sioux Falls City Councilman, Kermit Staggers is not an official endorsement, it has gone mega viral over the last few days.  In a recent op-ed written by Staggers in the Argus Leader, one of his last sentences has sparked the already burning flame of anti-establishment activism throughout the state.

If Romney wins overwhelmingly, the message would be that state Republicans are satisfied with their party’s presumptive nominee. But if Paul wins a large percentage of the vote plus delegates, the message would be that Republicans are not satisfied with Romney and/or that the cause of freedom and liberty still resonates in the hearts of South Dakotans.

The last line in that quote has been translated into a dialogue of:  “Show the nation that South Dakota still fights for freedom and liberty.  Vote for Ron Paul!”  Possibly, nobody else could have done a better job at starting that message than South Dakota’s own “Dr. No”.  Current Sioux Falls City Councilman Kermit Staggers earned that nickname while serving 8 years in the State Senate.  You might say he was the “Ron Paul” of the state legislature fighting against unnecessary spending.

Ron Paul’s campaign has acknowledged 2 official endorsements from South Dakota recently.  State Representative Jon Hansen of Dell Rapids stated, “Ron Paul’s consistency and integrity goes unmatched in today’s political environment.”  On the complete opposite side of the state, Rapid City Councilman Jordan Mason stated in his official endorsement, “I stand for strong fiscal policy.  I stand for solving our problems at home before we try to solve other countries’ problems abroad.  I stand for liberty and I stand for the American dream.  And so I stand for Ron Paul.”

Meanwhile, the grassroots efforts are also fired-up.  There is a new unconnected PAC called “South Dakota for Liberty” that is currently having a major moneybomb going on throughout this weekend hoping to meet their goal of raising at least $25,000 in order to help get out the vote.  In just one day, they have already raised over $9,000.

A Sioux Falls meetup group has been engaged in door-to-door canvassing.  The PAC has recently opened-up an office in the downtown area which is located at 220 S. Phillips Avenue for the purpose of phone banking and to organize grassroots efforts.

If there is one thing that South Dakotans still love, it is to fight their way into the national spotlight.  With that said, I hope that South Dakota voters choose to ROCK THE ESTABLISHMENT on the 5th of June!

Romney losing ground to Obama while Paul collects delegates

Mitt Romney has experienced an eleven point swing in his poll numbers vs. President Obama in just over one week, according to a daily tracking poll of likely voters from Rasmussen Reports. Just over a week ago, Romney was leading President Obama by eight percentage points at 50 – 42%. In today’s poll, the President leads Romney by three percentage points at 47 – 44%.

While it is early in the election season, such a dramatic shift in the President’s favor cannot be seen as good news for Governor Romney.

To make matters worse for the Romney team, Congressman Paul continues to gain on Romney by racking up delegates in state after state. This weekend, Congressman Paul won thirty-two out of forty delegates in Minnesota, further narrowing Governor Romney’s delegate lead heading into the GOP national convention in August.

The sagging Romney poll numbers relative to the President’s numbers and the continuing excitement behind the Ron Paul campaign, has some pundits questioning whether Congressman Paul might actually be a better GOP candidate than Governor Romney in the long run.

Congressman Paul has an activated volunteer base and a well organized ground game, while Romney’s support tends to be money-driven and top-down. Furthermore, while Governor Romney is sliding, Congressman Paul has been even with President Obama in the same Rasmussen poll, although there are no new numbers for Paul vs. Obama this week. If these numbers stay the same or get worse for Governor Romney, and Congressman Paul’s star continues to rise, come August, GOP delegates in Tampa may be faced with a difficult decision if they want to beat President Obama.

It’s No Secret Why Ron Paul is So Popular with Independents

0

Source: http://www.ronpaul2012.com

By Jack Hunter

The latest Public Policy Poll that shows Ron Paul doing better in a head-to-head contest with President Obama than any other Republican presidential candidate also shows his consistent superior strength with independent voters. Paul ties Obama for independents while the rest of the GOP candidates trail 6-15 points.

Paul’s message of individual freedom, fiscal responsibility and a more prudent foreign policy resonates with a cross section of Americans in ways the other GOP candidates can never achieve. No one thinks of “individual freedom” when they look at the healthcare mandating Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, nor do they think this when they listen to Rick Santorum’s various plans to run Americans’ lives. No one thinks of “fiscal responsibility” when they look at Romney, Gingrich and Santorum’s big spending records. And at a time when a majority of Americans want to get out of Afghanistan immediately and to reduce America’s involvement around the world, no one sees any change in our foreign policy in the blustery rhetoric of Mitt, Newt and Rick.

Many Americans don’t see any hope for individual freedom, fiscal responsibility and a more prudent foreign policy in President Obama either–whose national healthcare plan remains unpopular, as does his outrageous spending and tragic foreign policy.

While the political establishment of both parties like to portray Ron Paul as a man out of step with the mainstream, he is in fact more in line with the mainstream than any of the establishment choices.

There’s really no secret as to why Ron Paul does so well with independent voters. It is the political class who need to get a clue.
