Anyone worried that the world will come to an end Friday (Dec. 21) can scan the heavens online this week for any signs of death from above.
The online Slooh Space Camera will broadcast a series of live cosmic views all week, beginning today (Dec. 17). The free webcasts will help the public keep watch for any monster solar storms, impending asteroid strikes or other potential agents of the so-called “Mayan apocalypse” that doomsayers claim is set for Friday.
“Rather than merely offer scientists’ dismissals of the many silly doomsday scenarios that have now been heard by almost everyone in the world, and which have reportedly produced panic in Russia, Slooh will take a ‘let’s see for ourselves’ attitude,” Astronomy Magazine columnist Bob Berman, who will participate in the shows, said in a statement.
“By acting independently of any government agency, which assumedly would be disbelieved by the millions who are convinced a giant cover-up is in place, Slooh will observe the planets and the ecliptic plane for anything out of the ordinary,” Berman added. [End of the World? Top Doomsday Fears]
Slooh will webcast live footage from observatories in Arizona and the Canary Islands off the west coast of Africa. Each day will focus on a different apocalyptic “area of concern,” from massive sun eruptions to a collision with a mythical “rogue planet,” Slooh officials said.
You can check out the schedule and watch the shows — which will also feature Slooh president Patrick Paolucci and other guests — at Slooh’s website: http://www.slooh.com.
The doomsayers are worried because the 13th bak’tun (or 144,000-day cycle) of the Mayan Long Count Mayan wraps up on Dec. 21, marking the end of a cycle of creation. But the ancient Maya probably would not have thought the world was going to end Friday, scholars say; rather, they likely would simply have celebrated and rolled the calendar over to a new bak’tun.
Scientists at NASA and other institutions have tried repeatedly to tamp down concerns about the 2012 doomsday, stressing that there’s nothing in particular to be worried about this Friday.
“Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than four billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012,” NASA researchers wrote in an apocalypse-debunking FAQ.
But Friday is a date of celestial significance, whether or not you believe in the doomsday scenarios. It’s one of the year’s two solstices, marking the start of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of summer in the South. (The other solstice occurs in June.)
At the winter solstice, the sun pauses briefly after reaching its most southerly point in the sky. Thereafter, it begins to head northward once again as part of its annual cycle. Indeed, the word “solstice” is derived from the Latin sol (“sun”) and sistere (“to stand still”).
Friday will be the shortest day of the year for Northern Hemisphere dwellers, while folks in the South will enjoy the most sunshine of 2012 on that date.

Ron Paul will speak to a live national audience via coverage from C-SPAN on Sunday, Aug 26th at 3pm ET from the University of South Florida’s 17,000 seat Sun Dome. The event is themed as a constitutional conservative and libertarian friendly alternative to the official GOP convention. Ron Paul, himself, is calling it “the speech the RNC doesn’t want the rest of America to hear.”
The event is titled, “We are the Future,” and will feature numerous speakers including Doug Wead, Congressman Justin Amash, Barry Goldwater, Jr., Jack Hunter, SC State Senator Tom Davis and Senator Rand Paul with musical performances by Jimmie Vaughan, Aimee Allen, Jordan Page, and John Popper of Blues Traveler (with Ron Noyes).
The Romney campaign and GOP establishment have yet to invite Ron Paul to speak at the official GOP convention. However, they have found it politically convenient to adopt much of his message. Just last week, Romney pledged to support an audit of the Federal Reserve and the GOP is expected to adopt the audit as a plank in its platform along with a version of Campaign for Liberty’s Internet Freedom initiative. The party platform is also widely expected to call for a commission to investigate the gold standard.
Another grassroots and Paul-themed event is happening throughout the weekend, P.A.U.L. Festival. Speakers include Tom Woods, Lew Rockwell, Gary Johnson and Walter Block among other.

Live Stream outside Eucador’s Embassy in the U.K. Julian Assange (Wikileaks)
Here is the live feed outside of the Ecuador Embassy in the U.K.
Julian Assange is there. Ecuador has been trying to get him safe passage to the country of Ecuador, but the police of the U.K. (with U.S. involvement) has said they will never allow him to leave. They are trying to arrest him and extradite him to Sweden for “rape charges.” Then Sweden would extradite him to the U.S.
Which of course if he was extradited to the U.S. he would be submitted to torture and held for the rest of his life without trial or rights as a “terrorist.”
Ecuador has even said they are going to the International Courts over the U.K. going against diplomatic law due to not allowing someone who has been granted asylum by a country.
I LOVE ECUADOR! WHAT AN AWESOME COUNTRY!
Assange is suppose to make a statement at some point on the steps of the embassy tomorrow. The Live feed will go full time all the way to that point from my understanding. Here is the Live Stream.

Egypt’s military warns protesters over presidential election result
Egypt’s ruling military council on Friday warned it would use its powers to overcome protesters’ threats to confront the regime if it announced a former general won last week’s presidential election.
In a strongly worded statement, it blamed the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate, Mohamed Morsi, of stirring up emotions that drew thousands into Cairo’s Tahrir Square as a mounting political crisis threatened to come to a head.
The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces said everyone should accept its “legal decisions” and refused to reverse its dissolution of parliament and its declaration reserving sweeping powers and a constitutional veto.
“The army and the police will combat any attacks on Egypt’s public or private institutions and enforce the law immediately,” a spokesman said. He intoned his statement invisibly from behind a screen on state television, using the menacing style of the decades-long military dictatorship of the deposed and now ailing president Hosni Mubarak.
The statement was repeated on state radio throughout the afternoon. Mr Morsi retorted that the generals were defying the democratic will of the people and said protests would go on. The Brotherhood has claimed that he won a narrow but clear victory.

Revolution PAC, backer of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination, is mustering dozens of special guests for its February 25 “Ron Paul Powercast.” Headliners confirmed to date include former CIA Bin Laden Unit Chief Michael Scheuer, “The Creature from Jekyll Island” author G. Edward Griffin, award-winning Fox News anchor Ben Swann, and New York Times bestselling author and economist Tom Woods.
The 12-hour broadcast runs from noon to midnight Saturday, February 25 in conjunction with a 24-hour, $1 million fundraiser to support the committee’s Super Tuesday ad campaign and election integrity initiatives. The public may participate by logging onto http://www.revolutionpac.com.
“Heading into the Michigan and Arizona primaries, as well as Super Tuesday, we’re looking for the Ron Paul Powercast to blow our previous viewership numbers out of the water,” notes Revolution PAC Chair Gary Franchi. “This event promises to be an outstanding booster for liberty activists and honest government advocates nationwide.”
Also on the Powercast docket include former congressional candidate John Dennis; author, activist and radio host Adam Kokesh; constitutional law attorney Dr. Edwin Vieira; New York Times bestselling author and radio host Charles Goyette; Dr. Murray Sabrin; Oath Keepers President Stewart Rhodes; Sheriff Richard Mack; author and activist Tom Mullen; New York Times bestselling author and historian Kevin Gutzman; homeopath and radio host Robert Scott Bell; former Ron Paul Political Director Penny Freeman; Free & Equal founder Christina Tobin; Freedom’s Phoenix founder Ernest Hancock; Liberty Candidates founder Gigi Bowman; America’s Future Foundation’s Richard Lorenc; Institute for Truth in Accounting founder and CEO Sheila Weinberg; radio personality Greg Bishop; former NY State Assembly candidate Danny Panzella; and singer/songwriter Jordan Page.
“We’re making calls for guests up to the date of the broadcast and expect the roster to continue to grow,” adds Franchi. “Stay tuned for more big announcements through next week.”
Revolution PAC’s groundbreaking alternative election broadcasts kicked off January 21 for the South Carolina Primary in the wake of the super committee’s call for a nationwide boycott of cable/network outlets, which have exhibited consistent reporting bias against Rep. Paul. Live broadcasts for the Florida Primary and Nevada Caucuses followed, each drawing as many as 20,000 viewers.
Revolution PAC is supporting U.S. Rep. Ron Paul’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination and his consistent, constitutional message with targeted TV advertising, direct mail campaigns, vote-watching initiatives and innovative Web promotions complemented by billboards and radio ads in key primary states. Unlimited donations by individuals, businesses and organizations are being accepted by Revolution PAC to support that effort.
